CODE OF CONDUCT

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

  • I will come to every practice/game with a positive attitude, ready to perform my best.

  • I will demonstrate fair play and good sportsmanship at every practice, game, and tournament. I will also encourage fair play and good sportsmanship from other players, coaches, officials, and parents.

  • I will attend every practice and game that I can, and I will notify my coach if I cannot make a practice or game.

  • I will come to practices and games on time and ready to learn. I accept responsibility for bringing any equipment necessary for practice and games (glove, helmet, bat, shoes, uniform, etc.).

  • I will follow coaching direction and will not be disruptive during practice or games, nor will I “mouth off” or use bad language.

  • I will treat other players, coaches, officials, and fans with respect regardless of race, sex, or ability, and I will expect to be treated accordingly.

  • I will respect the authority of the ump, even though I may sometimes disagree with the call.

  • I will encourage my parents to be involved with my team in some capacity because it is important to me.

  • I will conduct myself with honor, dignity and treat other players as I would like to be treated. I will at all times respect that I am representing Pono Hawaii, my team, and my community.

  • I understand that poor behavior during practices, games, or tournaments may result in lost playing time and expulsion from the team.

  • I will practice on my own to improve my baseball skills and physical condition.

  • I will learn and obey the laws of the game and the rules of the team and club.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

  • My child plays baseball for his or her benefit, not mine.

  • I will not give instructions to players – that is the coach’s role.

  • I will never question the ump's judgment, integrity, or honesty.

  • I will support all efforts to eliminate verbal and physical abuse from the game of baseball.

  • If I am upset by something, I will wait 24 hours before discussing the issue with the team coach and will do so in a private and constructive manner.

  • I will not approach the team Coach prior to or during a session.

  • I will show respect for all players, all coaches, all officials, and all spectators at all times.

  • I will teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game.

  • I will never take part in a practice, game or team event while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

  • I will make my child feel like a winner by offering praise for competing fairly and doing their best.

  • I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

  • Children learn by example. I will applaud good plays by both my child’s team and their opponents.

  • I will make sure that my child arrives for practices and games at the time designated by the coach, ready to begin.

  • If my child cannot make a game or practice, I will notify the team Coach in advance so that arrangements for substitutes can be made.

  • I will not take part in any form of bullying, whether that is to a parent, player, team coach, referee or club representative. Bullying in any form, whether in person or electronically (any form of social media) will not be tolerated.

  • I realize that the team can be penalized for my behavior. I will obey a request by a ump or from the team’s Coach to leave the vicinity of the field.

  • I realize that failure to abide by the Code of Conduct may result in my removal, and the potentially removal of my child, from the vicinity of the playing field and potentially further sanctions by the club.

  • I will learn the rules of the game and respect them.

  • I will comply with the rules of the team, coach, and club.

  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.

  • I will provide a safe playing environment for my players.

  • I promise to review and practice basic first-aid principles needed to treat injuries to my players.

  • I will strive to keep abreast of current learning techniques and knowledge of the game. I will listen and learn from my players and other coaches.

  • I will maintain control of my emotions and I will avoid actions, language and/or gestures that may be interpreted as hostile or humiliating.

  • I will never take part in a practice, game or team event while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

  • I will be knowledgeable of the rules of the game, and I will teach them to my players.

  • I will treat parents, players, fans, other coaches, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, religion, or ability, and I will expect to be treated accordingly.

  • I will discuss any issues about a game with the ump in a courteous and professional manner and never make a scene when doing so. If I have an issue, I agree to abide by the league rules for appropriate handling of such issue.

  • I will remember that as a coach, I represent Pono Hawaii, Pono Athletics, and the community. I understand poor behavior during practices, games, or tournaments may result in disciplinary actions, including game suspensions. If this happens repeatedly, it will result in expulsion from the club.
